Sudanese, Ugandan presidents meet in Nairobi, sign agreement
Sudanese President Omar El-Bashir and the Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni signed an agreement yesterday to resume diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Bashir and Museveni on Wednesday started talks in Nairobi in the presence of former US President Jimmy Carter, after more than four years of boycotting diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Sudanese diplomatic sources said the agreement included the two countries' pledge to stop supporting the rebel movements in the other country.
AFP quoted Carter's center, which is an organization established by the former US president to strengthen peace in the world, as saying that the two presidents were to discuss regional issues. President Carter is making mediation between the two countries.
President al-Bashir arrived in Nairobi on Tuesday evening, where he met with Kenyan President Daniel arap Moi, who is leading the peace initiative in Sudan, sponsored by the governmental commission for development and fighting desertification, IGAD (the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development).
