Meeting between Ugandan president and El-Bashir

A meeting between Sudanese President Omar El-Bashir and Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni will be convened today in Durban city in South Africa.

Sudanese press sources said today that South African President Tabo Mbeki made a mediation between the two sides to convene this meeting, hoping to end the longtime guerrilla presence in northern Uganda and southern Sudan, adding that Museveni and the officials in South Africa said they cannot reveal any details regarding the meeting with Sudan.

Meanwhile, Ugandan Foreign Minister Eriya Kategaya said his country agreed to convene this meeting at the request of President Mbeki, but he expressed his doubts that the meeting will achieve any real peace, saying that deeds are important and not words.
