Saudi Arabia appeal to Iran and Afghanistan to maintain self-control

Originally published

Saudi Arabia has once again held Israel responsible for the impasse in the Middle East peace process. It urged the international community to take tough measures against the repeated Israeli measures in Southern Lebanon and its western Bekaa.

A statement read by the Saudi minister of information following a meeting of the Saudi Cabinet on Monday, chaired by King Fahd Bin Abdul Aziz that said the meeting dealt with current events in the Arab, Islamic and international arenas, foremost being the deadlocked Middle East peace process, as well as the daily Israeli aggressions in south Lebanon, killing civilians and destroying the Lebanese infrastructure. It called for putting an end to these Israeli violations.

The Saudi Cabinet renewed its appeal to Iran and Afghanistan to maintain self-control and to work promptly for settling their disputes by peaceful means. Saudi Arabia has in the past supported the Taleban ruling party in Afghanistan while Iran supported the ousted government. Border tensions between Afghanistan and Iran are high following the death of nine Iranians along the border area.
