- The Israeli daily Maareve said in its Wednesday's issue that an envoy for the Israeli prime minister Ehud Barak arrived in Cairo on Tuesday in a secret mission whose nature was not disclosed. In its report quoted by the Israeli radio on Wednesday, the paper added that intensive contacts are being made between Israel and the Palestinian Authority at various levels to reduce the level of acts of violence in the Palestinian territories and to resume negotiations between the two sides.
