Turkish, Egyptian ministers discuss Middle East and Eastern Mediterranean, Anadolu reports
The agency cited Turkish diplomatic sources; a separate Egyptian readout details bilateral cooperation and regional diplomacy in an August 9 call.
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty discussed developments in the Middle East and Eastern Mediterranean by telephone, Anadolu Agency reported in a November 7 dispatch, citing Turkish diplomatic sources. The report did not specify when the conversation took place.
A separate Egyptian Foreign Ministry account describes a call that Abdelatty received from Fidan on Sunday, August 9, without stating the year. It cannot be confirmed whether that account concerns the same conversation reported by Anadolu, and it makes no explicit reference to the Eastern Mediterranean.
In its account of the August 9 conversation, the Egyptian ministry said the ministers reviewed relations between their countries and ways to expand cooperation in the economy, trade and investment. Both welcomed recent progress in bilateral ties, according to the ministry.
The ministers also reaffirmed their intention to pursue the outcomes of the first High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council meeting. According to the Egyptian account, that meeting took place in Cairo in February 2026, with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan jointly chairing it.
On regional affairs, the ministry said the August 9 discussion addressed efforts to reduce escalation and arrangements for regional security. It said the ministers wanted stronger efforts to restore calm and reach lasting, comprehensive understandings that would support security and stability across the region.
The Palestinian issue was also on the agenda. According to the Egyptian ministry, the ministers called for escalation in the occupied Palestinian territories to stop immediately and backed carrying out the first two phases of U.S. President Donald Trump’s peace plan, including an Israeli withdrawal from Gaza.
The ministry said both ministers strongly condemned what it described as repeated Israeli violations in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and in the Gaza Strip. Its account placed those concerns alongside the ministers’ discussions of de-escalation and regional security.
