European MEDA committee contributes $1.7 million to Moroccan housing project
The MEDA Committee of the European Union has earmarked $1.7 million to back a Moroccan housing project in the northern city of Tangier.
The project, which seeks to eradicate shantytowns in Tangier, targets poor households.
King Mohammed VI last week launched a housing project for shantytown dwellers in Tangiers.
The recipients (about 1,551 families) represent 60% of the population living in shanty-towns in the city. Morocco plans to completely eradicate shantytowns in Tangiers by year 2002.
