King Mohammed launches housing project for shantytown dwellers in Tangiers
King Mohammed VI, accompanied by Prince Moulay Rachid, on Friday launched a housing project for shantytown dwellers in the Moroccan northern city of Tangiers.
The recipients (about 1,551 families) represent 60% of the population living in shantytowns in the city. Morocco plans to completely eradicate shantytowns in Tangiers by year 2002.
The king also dedicated another project to supply 1,150 households with drinking water and basic sewage system in Tangiers.
King Mohammed VI also visited on Friday the Tangiers El-Hana charity for the protection of disabled children.
The charity, founded 40 years ago by Sir L. Cheshire, aims to help integrate disabled children into society.
