Report: Disputes between al-Kabareiti, al-Wabdah over dealing with Hamas
The Jordanian weekly al-Majd has talked about tense differences between Jordanian Prime Minister Abdul Raouf al-Rawabdeh and the chief of the Jordanian royal court, Abdul Karim al-Kabareiti, concerning the issue of Hamas.
The Jordanian prime minister takes a strong position against the movement and the Muslim Brothers and does not want to give up decisions and measures taken against the leaders of Hamas.
In its recent issue, the Jordanian weekly said that this difference erupted during discussions of the general conditions in the country in a meeting in the northern al-Badia district presided over by King Abdullah II who was visiting the area last Tuesday evening.
The paper reported that the king gave instructions to release the chairman of the political bureau of the Hamas movement, Khaled Mashaal, and the movement's official spokesman, Ibrahim Ghoushe.
The paper added that King Abdullah asked al-Rawabdeh during the session presided over by the king to calm down the conditions which were intensified following the measures taken by the Jordanian government against the Hamas leaders as well as to eliminate reasons for tension and political unrest prevailing the Jordanian street.
Al-Majd said that al-Kabareiti is inclined to the moderate solution in order to end this problem very soon.
The Jordanian weekly added that most who attended the session of princes and officials were in favor of the proposals made by al-Kabareiti, while al-Rawabdah, who said that the crisis is no longer existed, has failed.
The Jordanian weekly added, according to its own sources, that al-Rawabdeh, who left the northern Badia session as a loser, had, just several hours earlier, had the backing of former Jordanian prime ministers who were accompanying the king at the luncheon banquet held at the house of former Jordanian Prime Minister Mudar Badran last Tuesday and attended by the chief of the royal court, parliament members and the director of the general intelligence.
The paper added that former Jordanian Prime Ministers Ahmad al-Louzi, Zeid al-Refa, Abdul Salaam al-Majali and Fayez al-Tarawneh voiced their backing for al-Rawabdeh in the presence of the king and strongly criticized the Hamas movement and the Muslim Brothers group and accused it of violating the Jordanian laws and the signed agreements.
They said that the Muslim Brothers group has forgotten that it is a mere "organization" that it is not legally authorized to practice political work, while each of Mudar Badran and Taher al-Masri took a position that goes in contrary to that of al-Rawabdeh and his government's measures against Hamas.
