Sudan cancels state of emergency in Darfour
Sudanese President Omar Hassan El-Bashir issued yesterday evening a decree to cancel the state of emergency imposed six months ago on West Darfour province in western Sudan, two-and-a-half months after the end of tribal conflicts in the state.
El-Bashir announced that he also decided to end the task of the official responsible for the security situation in light of the state of emergency in the province. The security tasks were ascribed to the outgoing governor.
During June, the El-Kazel tribe in west Darfour endorsed a reconciliation agreement and put an end to a dispute due to which 300 were killed from the two sides in fighting with a rival tribe in last February.
These tribal conflicts broke out in mid-January due to disputes over the rights for grazing.
