Confrontation in southern Sudan

Originally published

A Sudanese official has asserted that some 17 persons from an Arab tribe were killed and another 18 were wounded in confrontations with the rebels in southern Sudan in the Darfur federal estate, SANA reported.

The Sudanese daily Alwan quoted the governor of the southern Sudanese province of Darfur, al-Haj Adam Youssef, as saying that a group of rebels attacked last week the Arab tribe of Zreikat in South Darfur province and killed one man and stole cattle and sheep.

The governor added that equestrians from the tribe who intended to restore the sheep launched a counter-attack on the camps of the rebels. As a result some 16 of them were killed and another 18 were wounded in the confrontation.
