IRC calls for urgent aid for Sudan
The International Committee of the Red Cross on Wednesday called for providing urgent aid to more than 50,000 persons who were harmed as a result of floods resulting from the heavy rainfall in the central and northern parts of Sudan and destroyed more than 10,000 houses.
The Red Cross and Red Crescent said in a statement that the damages were centered in Khartoum province, where the floods caused the death of 11 persons, as well as in the provinces of the Nile, North Kurdefan, Sanar, al-Jazira and other areas. Volunteers from the Red Crescent started a health orientation and guidance program in the areas of the catastrophe, where cases of diarrhea and malaria were reported.
