A request for electing Palestinian parliament
The People's Front for the Liberation of Palestine said it called during recent reconciliation talks with Palestinian President Yasser Arafat for the election of a new National Council in order to restore the Palestinian people's unity and revive the corporations of the Palestinia Liberation Organization that stopped after the signing of Palestinian - Israeli peace accords in 1993.
Maher El-Taher, a member of the political bureau of the front and its spokesman, said in press declarations yesterday that the call originally aimed at maintaining the PLO's framework and also includes forming a new executive committee for the organization as well as a central council emerging from the new parliament.
El-Taher added that the PLO "is not owned by a person or a certain front. The organization is for all the Palestinian people, and we seek to restore its role and activate it on the basis of the national works program and not on the Oslo agreement."
El-Taher said that "the talks with the delegation of Fath movement with chairmanship of Arafat will be resumed in 2 week in Amman or Cairo or Tunis and that, the place and date will be soon accurately determined."
