  • A Chinese industrial delegation is to arrive at Cairo by May 5 to follow up on an agreement concerned with establishing a factory to manufacture polypropylene, the main substance for plastic industries and artificial threads. The factory, to cost $6 million, will be built in the Gulf Suez region. Go
  • The Arab National Forum in Lebanon has called upon all Arab governments to immediately release "prisoners of political views." In a statement issued in Beirut on Wednesday on Prisoner Day, the forum asserted a need to honor public freedoms and human rights in order to foil the pretext advocated by the government of Tel Aviv, which tries to justify its human rights violations and detention of Arab and Palestinian militants by violations taking place of in Arab lands and the thousands of political detainees in the Arab jails.   • The Lebanese daily al-Nahar issued on Wednesday quoted well-informed political sources in Beirut as saying that Iranian President Muhammad Khatami will by the middle of next month hold a tour of the region which he will start in Syria. The Lebanese daily added that contacts are underway between Damascus and Tehran to set a final date for the visit.
