In an area of Sanaa province a high-ranking figure in the Yemeni Socialist Party, the largest opposition party in Yemen, was assassinated on Wednesday morning.

A well-informed source at the Yemeni Socialist Party told the media on Wednesday night that unidentified persons assassinated Muhammad Abu Nashtan, who is a member of the party's political bureau and the leading official in the party branch in the province of Sanaa.

The well-informed source explained that Nashtan was assassinated in Arhab district, 120 km north of Sanaa. He added Nashtan was "a key opposition figure who had stances against the ruling system."

He considered the assassination of Nashtan as aimed at terrifying the Socialist Party through killing its members in various parts of the country.
