President al-Assad confers with Li Ping

President Hafez al-Assad received on Wednesday at the presidential palace in Lattakia the Chinese chairman of the National People's Representatives, Li Ping, and members of the accompanying delegation.

Present at the meeting were Syria's Parliament speaker, foreign minister, minister of the interior and the Chinese ambassador in Damascus. Talks dealt with international and regional issues.

Li Ping expressed China's support for Syria's stances in backing Arab causes and finding a solution in the region based on UN Security Council resolutions.

Bilateral relations between Syria and China were discussed. The President and Li Ping expressed satisfaction over the positive development of these relations and a desire to increase them.
