The Egyptian weekly al-Osbo said in its most recent issue that King Abdullah of Jordan will visit Syria on April 15. News reports in Cairo said the visit will represent a new chapter in relations between the two states in various political and economic fields.

Discussions between Syrian President Hafez al-Assad and King Abdullah will center on the need for joint coordination toward the Middle East peace process.

Syrian Foreign Minister Farouk al-Sharaa is expected to visit Jordan within the coming days to explain his country's viewpoints toward the Middle East peace process, prior to the visit of the Jordanian king to Syria.

For his part the Jordanian ambassador in Damascus, Nasouh al-Majali, said in a statement on Tuesday to the Jordanian daily al-Doustour that the Jordanian king will pay an official visit to Syria on a date no later than the beginning of next month. The Jordanian ambassador said the visit of the Syrian foreign minister to Amman was postponed for reasons related to his work, as he is committed to duties in Brussels that cannot be postponed.
