Damascus praises European stand toward peace process

Originally published

Damascus considered the stand of the European union toward the Middle East peace process a positive one that agrees with United Nations principals and the basis of international law and that could lead to a just peace in the Middle East.

In a commentary, the official newspaper Tishreen said yesterday that the statement of the European summit calling for removing the obstacles before resuming discussions along the Syrian - Lebanese peace tracks proves that Europe is the party most capable of understanding what takes place in the Middle East.

Furthermore, the newspaper criticized the retreat of the US from its commitments and pledges as peace process sponsor under the pressure of "Zionist" people, also criticizing Washington for providing a new deal to purchase jets to Israel, despite Israel's violations of international law and refusal to implement pacts.
