Understanding committee meets on Lebanese complaints

Originally published

The April Understanding Monitoring Committee on Tuesday held a meeting at the headquarters of UNIFIL in the Lebanese border town of al-Naqoura.

The committee discussed two Lebanese complaints regarding the Israeli bombardment of the Lebanese towns of Hadatha and Zalaya, which resulted in wounding two Lebanese citizens and damaging houses and property. Lebanese delegation sources to the committee stressed that Israel will be held responsible for its attacks on the civilians and their properties.

Afterward, the April Understanding committee (comprising Syria, Lebanon, Israel, the US and France) held Israel responsible for the violation of the understanding agreement that bans launching attacks on civilians or targeting populated areas.

In a statement released following its Tuesday meeting, the committee asserted that the Israeli shelling of the western sector town of Hadatha in the south and Zalaya town in the Western Bekaa, as well as targeting civilians and populated areas and the electricity gird are a violation of the understanding's provisions.
