New Kurdish group claims responsibility for two explosions in Istanbul

Originally published

A group which was not known before calling itself the "National Kurdish Revenge Group" announced on Thursday responsibility for two explosions that took place in Istanbul on Wednesday.

An unidentified speaker who phoned the Turkish daily Hurriyet said he spoke on behalf of the group and that it is responsible for the two explosions took place in Istanbul. The speaker accused the Kurdistani Workers Party (PKK), whose leader Abdullah Ocalan was arrested in February, of taking a "negative stance."

The speaker added that, "From now on no one Turkish will sleep in peace."

This can be considered the first split to take place inside the Kurdistani Workers Party, a split already expected by analysists following the arrest of Ocalan.
