Kurds demonstrate in Australia

Originally published

Hundreds of Kurds demonstrated outside the Australian Parliament in Canberra calling upon Turkey to conduct a fair trial for the leader of the Kurdistani Workers Party, Abdullah Ocalan.

The demonstrators chanted slogans condemning the US and Israel over their involvement in the arrest of Abdullah Ocalan in Kenya. The demonstrators called for Ocalan's safety during his stay in a prison in Turkey.

Meanwhile, a spokesman for the demonstrators said that a delegation representing the Kurds was to meet later with politicians from Australian political parties and with Australian Foreign Minister Alexander Downer.
