Originally published

The Arab League has contacted the Arab states who are members in the ministerial committee in charge of practical moves with the UN Security Council to lift economic sanctions imposed in Iraq.

An Arab working paper in this respect will be discussed by the ministerial committee in its forthcoming meeting to be held in Damascus shortly, chaired by Syrian Foreign Minister Farouk al-Sharaa. Officials sources in Cairo said that the AL secretary general handed Iraqi envoy Nabil Nejm a copy of this Arab paper.

The sources added that the Arab paper concentrates on three main points already stated in the final statement of the Arab foreign ministers and the French and Russian initiatives.

The sources added that this Arab paper calls for serious moves by Arab governments with countries refusing the perpetuation of sanctions imposed on Iraq, especially with France, Russia and China.

The sources continued that this Arab paper also stressed the need to honor Iraq's sovereignty and territorial integrity and stressing the Arab countries' position against attempts to interfere in the internal affairs of Iraq as well as to ask Iraq taking necessary measures to prove good intention towards Kuwait and the neighboring countries.
