Syrian television covers Europe, America, information minister says
Syrian telvision transmissions to Europe and America started on Wednesday via four satellites. In a press conference he held on Wednesday in Damascus, Syrian Information Minister Muhammad Salman announced that this step came to "reflect the important national role played by Syria and to make its stances known to the whole world."
Salman stressed that Syria is interested in explaining its regional role and policy aimed at consolidating the Arab solidarity, adding that the mass media in Syria and media establishments try to put the Syrian position in front of the world and at the same time to provide the Syrian citizens with information and facts.
On the question of censorship of programs, Salman said that, "The aim of this censorship is to prevent any spoiled or bad production or anything that can harm the national and pan-Arab issues or cause damage to society and human beings."
