French intellectual urge Israel to release a Syrian detainee
Some 100 French intellectuals have submitted a petition to the Israeli defense Minister Yitzhak Mordechai demanding the release of the Syrian citizen Yasser al-Muzen, detained since 10 years.
His Lawyer Tamar said that Muzen was 17 when he was arrested in South Lebanon and he was sentenced for 25 years imprisonment under charges of planning to carry out an aggression in the Israeli territories. The lawyer added Muzen was transferred since last August to al-Ramleh prison hospital where he has been treated from Kidney disease.
The petition said that "Muzen suffers a chronicle Kidney failure and that a Kidney implant operation in Damascus, where his family lives is the only means for his survival." The signatories of the petition asked Mordechai for releasing " the prisoner and permitting him to join his family and return back to Syria."
This campaign was organized by the Physics professor at the French Institute, who is also a human rights patron Paul Kissler. The Spokesman for the Israeli radio did not comment on this issue.
