Syrian newspapers, Palestinian organizations attack Wye agreement
Syrian newspapers launched a strong attack on the Israeli - Palestinian peace agreement as weak and for a destroyed peace.
The Syrian newspaper Tishreen described Netanyahu's peace as a peace of suppression, of occupation, and detention for Palestinians under the pretext of terrorism.
The newspaper also confirmed that any peace agreement should return to the Palestinians their rights and territories, yet neither rights nor lands were returned, and Israel is still dominating the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
Meanwhile, al-Thawra newspaper criticized the US administration, asserting that it failed to restore the lost domination of the US role as the main sponsor of the peace process, saying that the US has played the role of a false witness in the series of concessions upon which the Palestinian self-rule authority has agreed.
The leaders of the Palestinian organizations located in Damascus also criticized the agreement, reached at the Wye Plantation in the United States, and agreed upon the necessity of confronting it, saying that the agreement strengthens the Israeli occupation and forms a security alliance between Palestinians and Israelis.
The leader of the Islamic Jihad, Ramadan Abdallah, said the agreement is considered a declaration of war because of the security alliance between Netanyahu and Arafat, adding that the alliance confirms Israeli domination over Palestinian territory.
On the other hand, the People's Front for the Liberation of Palestine, chaired by George Habash, warned of indulging in implementing the Israeli security function and called on the Palestinian people with all its movements, political and social forces to unity and confront the Israeli security program.
The Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine also opposed the agreement, considering it a security accord in the interest of Israel.
