Libya expresses unhappiness by changing Arab League delegate title

Originally published

Official sources at the Arab League (AL) said yesterday that Libya has changed its delegate's title at the AL from the permanent to resident representative.

The change took place according to an official message that was delivered yesterday to the AL, in which Libya asked the AL to inform all its member states of the change.

This decision coincides with the several procedures undertaken by Libya to assure its African direction after the Arab League did not take a decision during a meeting of the Arab foreign ministers in Cairo on September 16 to violate the UN embargo imposed on it. However, earlier this summer, the Organization of African Unity took such a decision, and several African officials have violated the flight ban.

The Libyan unhappiness of this Arab position is clear in its decision to disolve the Ministry of Arab Unity and changing the name of Libyan radio from "Voice of the Arab Homeland" to "Voice of Africa."
