Al-Sharaa meets delegation of US institution heads
Syrian Foreign Minister Farouk al-Sharaa on Thursday gave a lecture at al-Assad library in Damascus before a delegation that included the heads of several economic, academic, political and cultural institutions in the US, in which he conveyed President Hafez al-Assad's greetings to the guest delegation and his best wishes for their good stay in Syria.
Al-Sharaa spoke about main events and developments in Asia, Africa and Europe. He indicated the consequences of escalated regional conflicts and the need to put an end to them by legitimate means and in the context of the UN.
Al-Sharaa, in particular, concentrated on the stalemated Middle East peace process "due to the intransigence of the Israeli government and its refusal to abide by peace basiss and the Madrid terms of reference as well as to withdraw from the occupied Arab territories."
Al-Sharaa added that at a time when Israel tries to escape the Middle East peace process, new tensions and escalations are emerging in the Middle East aimed at "killing the peace process and destabilizing the region's security and stability."
The Syrian Foreign Minister talked about the positive role carried out by Syria in the region. He indicated that Syria attempts to deal with conditions in the region through embarking on peaceful means and international resolutions, away from a double-standard policy, and in what can perpetuate the concepts of justice, rights and equality.
The chairman of the visiting delegation, Warren Rowstand, expressed in his name and the name of the visiting delegation deep thanks and gratitude to al-Sharaa over the warm hospitality he and his companions received during their stay.
He expressed happiness over visiting Syria and becoming acquainted with "its hospitable people, ancient history as a cradle of ancient civilizations and its political, economic and social conditions."
