US supports Egypt's mediation between Syria and Turkey

US Defense Secretary William Cohen on Saturday expressed Washington's support for the initiative of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak to settle the current crisis between Syria and Turkey.

Cohen, who is on a tour of several Gulf states, was quoted as saying in a statement to the Bahraini daily Bahrain's tribune that efforts should be exerted to avert the eruption of a conflict between the two countries.
