Syrian - Turkish committee to be established to rebuild confidence
Well-informed sources told the Kuwaiti daily al-Rai al-Am on Sunday that the contacts and meetings recently made to defuse the crisis between Syria and Turkey aimed at forming a committee to open a Syrian-Turkish dialogue and to take steps for building confidence between the two countries.
The sources added that the committee proposed by the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), which would include Egypt, Iran and Saudi Arabia as well as Syria and Turkey, would discuss the possibility of Turkey withdrawing of its military forces from the Syrian borders, reconsidering its escalation measures against Damascus and announcing its readiness to settle unresolved problems by the two countries through dialogue and negotiations.
Syria is to announce its readiness to cooperate with Turkey to put an end to the activities of the Kurdistani Workers Party.
The sources added that the proposal made to set up such a committee was discussed between the foreign ministers of Egypt and Iran, Amr Moussa and Kamal Kharazi, respectively, during their telephone call on Friday.
