Yemen detain group accused of attacking interior minister's convoy

Originally published

The Yemeni army began to concentrate its troops in al-Jawf governorate, after the minister of interior was exposed to an unsuccessful assassination attempt, using heavy weapons in clashes that followed the incident.

Yemeni Interior Minister General Hussein Arab announced yesterday that security forces detained a number of persons who participated last Tuesday in planning an ambush for the governmental convoy in al-Jawf governorate.

The convoy was transporting the interior minister, the minister of local administration, the head of the intelligence department and al-Jawf's governor. Six persons were injured in the attack, including Governor Naji El-Zuleimi.

Tribal sources in al-Jawf governorate said that they believe the armed ambush put to the convoy was a reaction to "the Yemeni officials' humiliation" of the tribes' sons.
