Chirac: just peace only guarantee for security

Originally published

French President Jacques Chirac has stated that a just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East is the only guarantee for security and stability.

On the occasion of Egyptian President Mubarak's visit on Monday to France, President Chirac stressed in an article to the Egyptian al-Ahram daily issued on Monday the importance of implementing U.N. resolutions and the land for peace principle, regaining the occupied Syrian Golan, implementing U.N. resolution 425, guaranteeing the Palestinians' right to set up an independent state and dismantling the settlements that contradict the bases of the peace process and Security Council resolutions.

President Mubarak stressed France's constant efforts to realize the just and comprehensive peace in the region, and called on Israel to commit itself to the bases of the peace and not changing the status of Jerusalem.
