Lebanese Christians move to have President Lahoud resign
The meeting held between the leader of the Lebanese opposition Michael Aawn and the leader of the dissolved Lebanese forces Samir Jaajaa, for the first time since the latter released from prison, represented a turning point in the history of internal Lebanese alliances towards the relations with Syria and President Emil Lahoud.
The meeting enhanced what is called "the forces of March 14" which were and are still opposing Syria, and includes the trend of Michael Aawn who was accused in the past of deviating from the track adopted by the Lebanese majority.
The meeting, coincided with the revival of the assassination anniversary of the former Lebanese President Rene Muaawad, was converted into a political gathering in which points of differences were debated for the long period between forces loyal to Damascus and those opposing it.
During the celebration which was held at the headquarters of the Maronite Patriarch Nasrullah Sfeir, the widow of the late President Muaawad called on the Lebanese President Emil Lahoud to resign in order to get the Presidency out of internal and external isolation, considering that this obstructs Lebanon's progress and brings imbalance to Lebanon internal conditions and weakens the position of Christians.
These Lebanese Christian forces are moving to unify their positions over the issue of the murder of Rafiq al-Hariri probe and the relations with Syria, the dialogue with Hizbullah concerning its weapons, especially that the forces which stand loyal to Damascus worked during the time following Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's recent speech to reactivate its presence.
