Tension was renewed on the Kuwaiti-Iraqi borders on Thursday after the fall of two mortars selling fired from the Iraqi Um al-Qaser towards the Kuwaiti territories, Kuwait's desert, but no casualties were reported.

Meantime, the Kuwaiti security forces were put in a state of alert in precaution of any emergency. Kuwaiti security sources said that the Kuwaiti forces which are composed of the border guards forces and the special forces are ready for any emergency, warning that any "person entering the Kuwaiti lands from the gathered Iraqis at the border will be arrested immediately and if he tries to flee he will be shot."

The sources explained that the "Kuwaiti security forces are still maintaining self control, despite the provocations they are exposed to, and the attacks from the Iraqi side," noting that one American military force moved to the site of the incident and monitored the border and then dispatched reports directly to the Kuwaiti army operation department in one of its camps in Kuwait.

In a joint press conference with the American ambassador in Baghdad, Zalmai Khalil Zada, Zeibari said "Iraqi- Kuwaiti relations are good and will not be violated by this sort of matter, and we have continued contacts with our brothers in Kuwait in order to contain this issue," stressing that "Iraq is for Kuwait's full independence, and solving all problems through fraternal dialogue."
