Syria on Thursday totally rejected accusations over the border with Iraq saying Damascus has been doing her best to control the borders with Iraq and Syria is keen the Iraqi people will enjoy security and stability.
"Syria is doing her best to control borders with Iraq and has declared readiness for cooperation and coordination with the Iraqi interim government in this concern and in other security aspects," an official source at the Foreign Ministry told the Syrian Arab News Agency, SANA.
He underlined total rejection of accusations directed to Syria because "They are baseless," noting to some parties continuity to repeat these fabricated accusations would reflect desire to hide the real reasons standing behind the deterioration of situations in Iraq.
"These accusations are to delude the public opinion, mainly in Iraq, over the truth of the Syrian position which is keen on Iraq's stability and security and to pass the upcoming electorate process in success and that includes all sons of Iraq," the sources said.
The source emphasized Syria's eagerness that the people of Iraq would benefit from security and stability and to establish a free, sovereign and unified Iraq.
"Syria has stressed this point many times and declared by Mr. Foreign Minister Farouq al-Shara at Sharam Al-Sheikh conference that this will be achieved through the political process that is to bring elected institutions enjoying the popular legality and meet the Iraqi people's aspirations of independence, freedom and land integration," the source said.
The source said that this matter was not only in Iraq's interest but also for Syria and the region's benefit.
