The minister of defense in Mauritania, Baba Weld Seidi, said that Burkina Faso gave support for the leaders of the coupe attempt which was announced on August 9th and at the protection of the special advisor of its President Mustafa Weld al-Imam al-Shafe' who is of a Mauritanian origin.

In a press statement, the minister accused Burkina Faso of planning since a while to "destabilize Mauritania's security and stability and conspiring with the fleeing persons who managed the coupe and providing them with shelter and financial and logistic support." He continued that " there are two options before Burkina Faso. Either to hand over those criminals and killers according to the African agreements to this effect or continue its aggressive aggression against Mauritania with whom it does not share joint borders.

Baba Weld Seidi stressed that the organizers of the coupe and their allies were transported following the failure of their coupe attempt by Mustafa Weld al-Imam al-Shafe', the advisor of the President of Burkina Faso, to Burkina Faso where they found support and backing.

This accusations were strongly denied. The minister of security Jibril Basoli said in a press conference in the capital Waghadogho " we are astonished over these grave accusations which are groundless.
