Secretary Generals of Maghreban, Gulf groupings meet

Originally published

Secretary general of the Arab Maghreb Union (UMA), Mohamed Amamou, and Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Sheikh Jamil Ibrahim Alhojilan, held a work session on Monday in Riyadh.

A statement by the UMA secretariat general-based in Rabat-said the two sides surveyed the action conducted by the two groupings to foster complementarity between the Maghreb and the Gulf region, cooperation prospects and ways to consolidate joint Arab action.

Talks also covered the suffering endured by the Palestinian people because of the Israeli occupation, the sealing off of Palestinian territories, and the shelling and slaughters perpetrated by the Israeli occupying forces against unarmed people, in violation of all international conventions, the statement said.

The two sides renewed the two groupings' stands on the Palestinian cause, denounced Israel's crazy behavior and reiterated unconditional backing to the Palestinian people in their struggle to recover all their legitimate rights, including the establishment of an independent Palestinian State with Al-Quds as its capital, the statement said.

UMA musters Algeria, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco and Tunisia while the GCC groups Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
