Arab conference to discuss protection of Palestinian monuments

Originally published

The first conference on protecting Arab monuments to be held in Cairo will discuss on April 26 the issue of protecting Palestinian monuments which are being the target of organized looting by the Israeli occupation authorities.

The conference would discuss a paper on the protection of Jerusalem's monuments and will voice support to Palestine's sovereignty over these monuments.

He denounced the Israeli violations of the Palestinian monuments, saying the occupation authorities were still continuing to loot these monuments and transfer them from the Palestinian museum into large containers to unknown destinations.

Abdel Maqsoud said the Israeli authorities were working on shifting the Grand Mosque in Be'ir Al-Saba'a into an Israeli museum, a matter which would constitute an obliteration of the Arab identity and a serious aggression against the Palestinian sanctuaries.

An exhibition displaying documentary films on such monuments will be held on the sidelines of the conference, he said.
