Former minister to set up new liberal party
Former Moroccan human rights minister, Mohamed Zyane, has announced that he is working to create a new liberal party.
Zyane, director of Al-Hayat Al-Yaoumia daily, told UPI news agency that he will set up the party with other executives and activists.
The new party will defend Arab nationalism and attachment to Islam, he said, adding that the organization "comes to fill a void in the Moroccan political scene which lacks a genuine liberal party able to defend liberalism and lay down the foundations of a society guaranteeing to Morocco the conditions to enter the third millenium."
The creation of the new party materializes aspirations of a large number of cadres "disappointed by the weak action of the present government and the non-democratic practices within the traditional parties," said Zyane.
