Arafat's name dropped from the final statement of Doha summit

Originally published

The Saudi daily al-Watan said on Tuesday that Syria was persistent to drop Arafat' s name from the final statement of the Doha summit.

The paper added that the meeting leaders dropped Arafat's name in response to a Syrian request and the item at the final statement stressed the Summit's confidence in the PLO ( Palestine Liberation Organization ) leadership of the Palestinian people, instead of the leadership of Arafat of the Palestinian people.

The paper added that minister al-Shara had rejected two items from the final statement of the Organization of the Islamic Conference in Doha by saying that " there were two points that were amended as Syria wanted," but al-Shara gave no details.
