Yemen cooperates with US on warship explosion investigation

Originally published

Yemeni officials said on Monday that negotiations are continuous between the US and Yemen in an attempt to reach an agreement that gives the US investigators more authorities in the investigations in the US warship explosion at Aden port.

A Yemeni official told the press that no agreement has been reached yet on the presence of American investigators to the inquiries carried out by Yemeni security officials, adding that negotiations are continuous to this effect.

The Yemeni official added that the Yemeni investigators briefed the US side on all emerging results of the investigations, noting that submariners started on Monday to examine the muddy soil at the site of the attack in an attempt to find out more evidence after the warship USS Cole was withdrawn away and put on board of a Norwegian ship.

In Washington, the spokesman for the US state department Richard Boutcher said that the US found good cooperation in the first phase and is making discussions with the Yemenis on means of cooperating with the US in the future.
