The Stage-I of an Italian-funded water project meant to replenish artificially ground-water under the southern Atlas mountain has been successfully completed, said Tuesday a release of the Italian embassy in Rabat.

The undertaking worth 1.1 million USD was launched in 1998 as part of moves to alleviate drought-effects in the region and to upgrade population living standards through increased water retention capacity.

The first stage of the project helped carry out studies on means to capture and stock water resources in the area ranging from Foum Zguid to the East and the Atlantic coast to the West.
