• Egypt's President Hosni Mubarak will address the nation on October 5 on the anniversary of the glorious October 1973 victory, and on October 17 on the eve of the People's Assembly elections. President Mubarak will lay wreaths on the memorial of the Unknown Soldier and the tombs of late leaders Anwar Al-Sadat and Gamal Abdul-Nasser in commemoration of the 27th anniversary of the Sixth of October victory. • Algerian Merah Benida on Saturday became the sole Arab athlete (men and women) to win a gold a medal in the Olympic games currently held in Sydney. • The Paris- based al-Muharrir news issued on Friday said that for the first time since 20 years there are rumors in the ruling system circles in Baghdad that the Iraqi President Saddam Hussein told his aides that he is intending to make an Arab tour and may be an international tour. • Moroccan champion Hicham El-Guerrouj will not participate in the IAAF Grand Prix final, due on October 5, the Moroccan athletics federation said.
