Two leading Moroccan clubs ousted at African cups

Originally published

Two leading Moroccan clubs, Raja and Wydad Casablanca, were ousted Sunday from the African champions league and the African Confederation CAF Cup.

Raja Casablanca, winner of last year's African champions league, could not preserve its 2-1 win in the away match against Jeanne D'Arc of Senegal. A 1-0 victory Sunday in Dakar put the Senegalese in the quarterfinal.

Wydad Casablanca, which played last year's final of the CAF cup, was eliminated by Ghana's dwarfs after a 2-0 loss in Accra. The away match, played three weeks ago in Casablanca, went to the Moroccans 2-1.

The military team of Rabat FAR is the only Moroccan survivor. After a 1-0 victory in Rabat over Rayon Sports of Rwanda, the Moroccans lost in the return match 2-1. The Moroccan goal was worth gold, as it propelled FAR into the quartnerfinal.
