African sports association supports Morocco 2006 world cup bid
Chairman of the African association "Sports for All," Lucien Tshimpumpu, said Friday his association supports Morocco's bid to host the 2006 soccer world cup finals.
The former Congolese sports minister said South Africa, the other African candidate, has been criticized for poor organization of the Pan-African games in September 1999 by African confederations. Meanwhile, Morocco boasts human skills trained in the organizing of high-level events, he added.
He went on that it would only be a recognition of Morocco's contributions to sports in the continent if the north African country is chosen as host for the planetary event. He cited the Moroccan team four-time qualification to the world cup finals as another element supporting Morocco's bid.
Morocco is competing with Germany, Britain, Brazil and South Africa for the honor to host the planetary event. FIFA will announce its choice next July.
