Demonstrations, statements, supporting Saddam
Iraq, Politics, 10/19/2005

Scores of Iraqis supporting the toppled Iraqi president Saddam Hussein demonstrated on Tuesday evening in his birthplace town, Tikrit, and in al-Dour north of Baghdad, on the eve of his trial, according to witnesses

Scores of Iraqis took the streets of Tikrit, 180km north of Baghdad, after they had left the Grand Mosque after prayers carrying his pictures. The demonstrators chanted long life for Saddam Hussein deploring the Iraqi government and accusing it of being a hireling government.

The witnesses said that two demonstrations walked in different directions in Tikrit and was joined later by several women. Another demonstration walked in al-Dour town from where comes the second ranking man in the former regime, Izzat Ibrahim al-Douri, according to witnesses.

On the other hand, the banned Iraqi Baath Party, which is led by Saddam Hussein, called, in a statement on the Internet, on the armed Iraqis to launch attacks against the American and Iraqi forces with the beginning of the trial of Saddam Hussein.
