Strong security measures for Saddam's trial

Originally published

Saddam Hussein trial today will be carried out amid unprecedented security measures even according to the Iraqi standards. Among these measures are self- inspection, examining by X-ray and verifications on the attendants thru eye and finger prints.

The accused men on trial will sit facing the judges who will be sitting at a higher platform. There will be a curtain around the platform of the witnesses that can be dropped to keep their identity secret, while bullet-proof glass barrier will separate the journalists and the observers from all part of the trial court.

Despite the preparations, sources close to the court say that the measures are likely to be postponed from the first day in order to enable the lawyers to study the requests of the defendant lawyers.

On the other hand, the Iraqi minister of the interior Baqer Haidar said that intensive security measures were taken by the Iraqi government in order to protect the judges and the witnesses to the trial of the toppled Iraqi president.
