Al-Sharq al-Awsat: Syrian vice president to visit Moscow

The London- based al-Sharq al-Awsat daily said Saturday that the forthcoming visit to be held by the Syrian Vice President Abdul Halim Khaddam to Moscow aims at preparing for the forthcoming visit by President Bashar al-Assad, at the invitation of his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.
The paper also quoted official sources in Moscow as saying that Khaddam's visit to Moscow aims also at discussing the Iraqi issue and means of developing trade relations.
