Syria, Politics, 5/5/2001

Deputy chairman of the strategic studies and researches at Damascus University Dr. Faisal Kolthoum has stressed that there is no " official appointment" between the chairman of the Arab Organization for Human Rights Muhammad Faeq and any other Syrian official.

In a statement to the London- based al-Hayat daily issued on Friday, Kolthoum explained that Faeq's visit to Damascus aims at taking part in a seminar organized by the research center on May 5th to 7th of this month, with the main idea " the national state and challenges of globalization in the Arab homeland." The seminar's program include discussions on the infiltration of the civil society organizations to the issue of media and social control of globalization.

Kolthoum said that the current priority for the national state is the Arab- Israeli conflict.
