- Bahraini women call for having civil status law
A group of women activists in Bahrain on Tuesday handed a memorandum for the minister of justice and Islamic affairs in Bahrain, Sheikh Abdullah Bin Khaled al-Khaleifa, including, in particular the demand to release a united "civil status law," and canceling the Sharia judiciary and bringing civil status issues before civilians courts. In spite of lack of experience in political campaigning and local traditions that stand in their way, women candidates for the national council ( parliament) in Bahrain stressed on Monday they will forge ahead and take part in the coming parliamentary elections despite their failure in the municipal elections which took place in May this year.
