New interior minister unveils policy in TV program
Moroccans should free themselves from the ascendancy of the past and mobilize around the king to take up the challenges thrown at the kingdom, said Interior Minister Ahmed Midaoui.
Midaoui, facing the press on the 2M-TV "frontline" program, said Moroccans should act not as "prisoners of the past." They should be realistic in coping with major issues in a fastly changing environment and draw from roots and Islamic values in building up a genuine democracy in tune with the country's reality.
He deplored the communication deficit between his department, braced for unprecedented change, and citizens, saying daily open contacts will help reconcile Moroccans with their administration.
Attitudes, legislation and procedures should adapt to adequately meet daily needs of all users and be at their service, said the minister, appointed one month ago in replacement of Driss Basri.
