Iraq resumes criticism of draft resolution easing sanctions

Originally published

Iraq escalated its criticism of the draft resolution currently being discussed by the United Nations Security Council, which aims at easing economic sanctions imposed on Iraq and bringing back the inspection system on the Iraqi weapons.

Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Tariq Aziz said, "There is no guarantee for lifting of the sanctions if Iraq accepted the plan."

Aziz added that, "The Iraqi government prefers the UK - US shelling to agreeing on the resolution."

Baghdad demands complete lifting of the sanctions with no conditions, saying that the weapons of mass destruction have been completely destroyed.
